SCG will not be on this Saturday due to the comics masterclass. SCG members may be trying to meet before hand so if your coming email SCG! Check out the link below:

University is nearly done and that means that the first gathering (is there a better word? :P ) of the Sydney comics guild is coming up on the first Saturday of November! We are still looking for suggestions of venues although it looks like Norita will be the first location but I still need to ring them and confirm.

PLEASE check the front page of the website during the first week of November or Facebook just in case our location changes. I’m not sure how we will ‘mark’ our table so people know what to look for, but we’ll figure something out that obvious so people aren’t left standing at the door looking awkward :D

Norita is unlikely to be a permanent solution and I’m still checking, I may bring back some of the polls from before about where we should meet and what we should do so keep an eye out for those

Apart from that I’m working on a comic project of my own with my brother (woot! collaboration!) and I’m thinking of creating a record of my process, like a tutorial or something, if anybody else is interested, feel free to contact me

Also, feel free to suggest what the Sydney Comics Guild should provide as resources, what we should do and where we should meet!

We already have a number of people who have joined Sydney Comics Guild because they saw posters and I have just gotten the business cards I still have a number of posters and postcards available for distribution. University’s covered so far are: COFA/UNSW UTS JMC Academy Macquarie University Billy Blue Still to cover: Sydney College of the Arts (USYD) National Art School A number of private collages and universities If you can help, please email/comment

If anyone is interested this is an email I answered from the Billy Blue guys about what SCG is… Feel free to comment!

Hi Alex I need your help with answering a couple questions about SCG, try and answer them with as much information as possible if you can~ :)

1. What is the target audience for the group? Are you aiming for younger people who like reading comics, or looking more at teenagers or young adults who not only read comics but are also interested in drawing, art, illustration etc.?
Young people - People who want to professional create a comic and amateurs to a lesser extent

2. What was your purpose in creating SCG? There are probably other similar groups out there but you chose to make your own, any reason why?
If you were a 16-30 year who wanted to create comics - this should be their first step
We meet to collaborate/ meet people to collaborate with - to draw and share ideas and to help each out create comics and to support each other doing things like going to book launches and comic cons together
There arn’t any similar groups - I’ve asked to comic creators of Sydney - there is a group like this in Melbourne

3. Where do you think this group could go in the future? Do you see us making our own anthology comic, having a stall/booth at anime/comic conventions?
Yes and yes
I see the group having several published artist who will support unpublished artist
I see the group providing tools like apps to publish comics on iproducts
I see the group running workshops and promoting comics in Sydney
I see the group running gallery exhibitions and creating artist run spaces for comic creation
I see the group getting a studio in the city with resources and being a place to meet and having comic artists in residences

4. Is there a particular style or genre that you want to focus on? There are all kinds of comics like American ones (eg. Marvel, DC) and then also Japanese manga. This will particularly help us in designing the poster and the website.
And yeah about the poster, any sketches or ideas you might have in how you want it to look?
Focus on everything - every genre and every style - try to make it look as diverse as possible
I’ll see if I can encourage somebody to create a sketch or maybe a we could create a collaboration between us - if you create something well see and ask your friends to! I’m assuming their Anime/Manga fans too :P

5. Date(s) and Venue. Hopefully you’ve finalised one, if not we’ll make up our own. :)
Saturday, November 5 · 11:00am - 1:00pm

22 Liverpool st, Sydney
I’d prefer if this wasn’t included on any of the promotional stuff - November is so close and dates are likely to change - if a web address is given it would be way better - then we can keep updating

Also - I know you probably won’t have time to make the website but if you could design it in Photoshop I’m sure I could program it later
If you could also, using that same design - create a simple tumblr and blogspot ‘theme’ that would be brilliant
Thanks!!!
